Last weekend, Sting Corpus Christi hosted the division’s first College ID Camp and ETA Clinic, welcoming more than 15 high-level college coaches and 120 athletes at the Bill Witt Soccer Complex.
“This is the first college ID camp ever in Corpus Christi,” Sting Corpus Christi Club Director Michael Stewart said. “It allows players who may not have had chances to be educated at or attend college showcases with a local opportunity in front of high-level coaches.”
This landmark event for the Greater Coastal Bend area perfectly represents what the Sting Soccer Organization brings to the youth soccer landscape, providing players not only the highest level of coaching available but also give them the opportunity to showcase their talent to further their playing career after completing the Sting pathway.
“[These camps are] great for any player at any level, even if they don’t know if they want to play in college,” Stewart continued. “It allows them to have local access and support everyone. The education is great but as we come together as a community and be great hosts, coaches will want to come back.”
After a great first run, plans are already in the works to make sure the camps return to Corpus Christi.
“We want to continue to make this an annual event,” Stewart emphasized. “Coaches and players alike had great experiences, so the idea is continuation.”
